Cloud Hill Co-Founder
Tom Middleton bridges the worlds of institutional finance and commitment to conservation, preservation, sustainability, community development, the arts and arts education. Most recently, he completed two years as an Advanced Leadership fellow at Harvard University with a focus on sustainable urban and community development and socially responsible investing models. Tom brings the rigor and discipline of the for-profit sector, as well as access to new forms of capital, that make him uniquely qualified to shepherd Cloud Hill’s vision to real-world completion. Tom is a retired senior managing director of the Blackstone Group, where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions in the communications industry. Prior to joining Blackstone, he was vice chairman of investment banking and head of the Telecom Group at Merrill Lynch. In addition, Tom’s nearly 20-year affiliation with the Nature Conservancy shaped his commitment to environmental sustainability. As board chairman of the New York State chapter and member of the Global Board, Tom oversaw projects that preserved over 400,000 acres of land. Tom has also devoted energy to working with institutions, such as the Institute of Creative Entrepreneurship at the Berklee College of Music and the Annenberg Innovation Lab at University of Southern California, to connect creative entrepreneurs to capital and build sustainable business models.
