I’ve watched with increasing interest the progress of the public/private partnership known as Cloud Hill, the redevelopment of the Greer Stadium site.
Reading the request for quotation put out by the city for this development, it is very clear that the objective is to maximize the value to the city, by combining three goals: Affordable housing, development of urban parks and historical preservation.
I consider myself unbiased, and I am not affiliated in any way with Cloud Hill or any of the other RFQ participants (or anyone else throwing ideas late in the game).
If there’s one thing good art needs, it’s cheap rent. Greatness often has humble beginnings – think the Mississippi Delta, Liverpool or Greenwich Village.
Nashville is fortunate to have so many out-of-state developers willing to invest here. But when native top-flight professionals propose a project that serves a wide variety of our residents, should they be vehemently attacked by locals?
As I am a native of this magical city, it came as no surprise to me when Nashville acquired the “it” city moniker. Nashville has always embodied the characteristics of a great city – the balance of art and commerce, respect for the past with consideration of its diverse community’s future needs, and thoughtful leadership.
The proposed plan to revamp the old Greer Stadium site seems to have been taking a lot of heat lately. What started as a well-intentioned way to preserve the fort and to help the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood grow in a thoughtful way has morphed into an angry swirl of misinformation and false claims.
As a resident of Chestnut Hill, I’ve been involved in providing input about the Greer Stadium redevelopment for the past several years. I’ve attended info sessions, responded to surveys, and met face to face with my city councilman.
